It’s been over 20 years since Elle Woods was introduced to the world, via Legally Blonde, Now Legally Blonde 3 is coming, and it is about time!
As Pop Crave tweeted: “Legally Blonde 3 is happening. The 17-year old classic is in the works for a third installment with Reese Witherspoon returning to reprise her role of Elle Woods. It’s too soon to say when it’ll premiere, as the film is still in its beginning stages of writing.”
Ir comes as another classic film of that era Freaky Friday has a sequel coming soon as well.
Legally Blonde 3 would mark the first Witherspoon-led film in the franchise since 2003’s Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde. (Legally Blondes was released in 2009 but did not star Witherspoon.)
Who is writing the script for the film?
In May 2021, Deadline reported that the third instalment of the franchise would be written by Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor.
Kaling is a famous face behind and in front of the camera, from her role as Kelly in The US Office, Mindy in The Mindy project as well as parts in The Morning Show and films like Ocean’s 8 and A Wrinkle In Time.

When is it out?
Originally, Legally Blonde 3 was rumoured to be released in February, then May 2020. However, the film STILL doesn’t have a release date.
It was supposed to be out on Valentine’s Day 2020 according to MGM. studios.
Then pushed back to 2022!
At a guess the movie won’t be released until late 2023, or even 2024. Good things come to those who wait?

Recce Witherspoon will be back in the role of Elle Woods, it remains to be seen whether fellow cast members including Jennifer Coolidge, Luke Wilson, Selma Blair and Regina King (who only appeared in Legally Blonde 2) would also come back.
Witherspoon told Entertainment Tonight, “There is no Legally Blonde 3 without Jennifer Coolidge.” Following that comment, Coolidge told Extra, “Of course, I would be on board. I’ve been hearing about it for a long time. Maybe it really is happening at this point. I would absolutely love to do Legally Blonde 3.”
