Cinderella is a film for children and always will be? Well, not anymore is seem as a gory Cinderella horror version of the film is on the way.
What about Prince Charming, is he going to be a serial killer?!
Original tale?
I mean to be fair the treatment of Cinderella, even in the Disney film, would be seen child abuse these days, and she would be taken into care, you would expect.
Also, the original story in the book, featured a young girl who tragically loses her mother and struggles with her father remarrying an evil woman with two equally awful daughters who treat her poorly.
According to Wikiepedia: “Although the story’s title and main character’s name change in different languages, in English-language folklore Cinderella is an archetypal name.
“The word Cinderella has, by analogy, come to mean someone whose attributes are unrecognised, or someone unexpectedly achieves recognition or success after a period of obscurity and neglect.”
Cinderella horror
The film will be called Cinderella’s Curse and will star Kelly Rian Sanson, Chrissie Wunna and Danielle Scott.
According to Bloody Disgusting, the new flick will be produced and directed by Louisa Warren and is being written by Harry Boxley.
“This an incredibly unique spin on the Cinderella we all love and know,” Warren told Bloody Disgusting, “there are going to be some truly horrific deaths by her hands. I think the gore hounds are in for a treat in my dark retelling.”
How have they got rights to it?
The chance to use an out-of-copyright (but very recognisable) character offers clear potential, especially by presenting said character in ways that we haven’t seen before.
When is it out?
Cinderella’s Curse is expected to land in October 2023.
