Boris Johnson getting legal aid, leaves a bitter taste with, I assume, pretty much everyone in the UK and beyond.
It comes as Boris Johnson will no longer work with government-appointed lawyers for the Covid inquiry, after he was referred to the police over further potential rule breaches during the pandemic.
The former PM has been referred to police by the Cabinet Office over claims that he broke lockdown rules by hosting family and friends at Chequers during Covid.
Boris Johnson Legal aid
Karl Turner MP asked: “Working people are barred from receiving legal aid if they earn £12,750.
‘So why is the PM forcing the British public to foot the bill… for Boris Johnson’s alleged lying enquiry…
“Why can’t he stand up for the British people, is it because he’s too weak?”
Earlier on Sky News Labour’s Anneliese Dodds said: “Boris Johnson is making a huge amount of money… but the British taxpayer is still footing his legal bills… he’s basically ripping off the taxpayer… & Rishi Sunak should be standing against this, but he just seems to be too weak.”
Allies?
However, Boris Johnson’s allies have issued a dramatic warning to Rishi Sunak, saying they will meet on Wednesday to “consider options” about how to force the government to stop “witch-hunts” as police began investigating new Partygate claims.
