While we know a sequel is officially happening, we don’t yet have a confirmed release date for Detective Pikachu 2.
Ryan Reynolds, who voiced Pikachu in the original film and also portrayed Tim Goodman’s father Harry Goodman, was said to have “some part to play” in the sequel, according to a March 2023 story from Deadline.
The conclusion of the first film showed that Mewtwo had saved Harry by transferring his consciousness into the Pokémon, which is why Tim could hear Detective Pikachu. Mewtwo transformed Harry back into a human after the threat had passed, and Pikachu resumed his endearing “pika, pika” speech.
Reynolds might therefore only have a cameo role to perform as Harry, unless they manage to make Pikachu sound like Deadpool again.
While the sequel has been confirmed, Detective Pikachu 2 hasn’t started filming so you’ll be waiting a while for any footage.
More as we get it.
