The fourth film in the most recent reboot series of The Planet of the Apes franchise, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, has a release date, a cast, a plot summary, and other elements that have been made public.
The Planet of the Apes film series, which is based on Pierre Boulle’s 1963 French novel La Planète des singes, produced Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Nine motion pictures, two television shows, and a tonne of goods have all been made based on the name. The central idea of the movies, despite their disparate stories, is that apes have evolved into sentient beings and replaced humans as the most prevalent life form on Earth.
According to Variety, filming for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes started in Australia’s Disney Studios in October 2022 and was completed on February 15, 2023.
On Twitter, the film’s director, Wes Ball, shared a behind-the-scenes glimpse at Planet of the Apes 4. In the video, Ball can be heard yelling, “That is a wrap!” over the applauding of the earliest CGI apes and the excitement of the camera and set crew. The visual effects crew will start working on the motion-capture creatures as soon as the filming for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is over.
After Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in their landmark purchase, they used their presentation at the April 2019 CinemaCon to confirm the futures of their key franchise properties.
During this, Disney confirmed that there would be a continuation of The Planet of the Apes franchise. However, what this continuation would look like, and whether it would be a reboot or sequel would not be confirmed until October 2022. The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes story will be a continuation of the recent trilogy and will not be restarting the franchise again. This should come as a relief to fans of the Rupert Wyatt and Matt Reeves films.
The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes film officially has a release date of May 24, 2024.
