Help! Anyone! Fetch America Ferrera a somewhat questionable poncho ASAP! Betty could be coming back!
The Barbie celebrity recently expressed her excitement about the prospect of an Ugly Betty reunion, stating that she would be “delighted” to revisit her award-winning role as the endlessly spirited Betty Suarez.
“There has been a strong desire for a long time because our Ugly Betty family is so tight-knit, and we genuinely love each other,” Ferrera shared with Entertainment Tonight. “I believe we would all return without hesitation. You know, it’s a considerable effort to kickstart such a project. Perhaps we’ll figure it out.”
“Betty is close to my heart,” she added. “I would be overjoyed [to portray her again].”
Ferrera is not the only one eager for a reunion of the ABC dramedy, which aired for four seasons from 2006 to 2010. Rebecca Romijn, who portrayed a trans woman on the show, expressed her desire to be part of a reboot, suggesting her character be played by a trans actress.
In November, Ferrera, Michael Urie, and Vanessa Williams posted an Instagram photo of “Betty and Marc and Wilhelmina” having dinner. Williams had previously mentioned to EW in 2021 that a reboot might be uncertain following the death of Silvio Horta the previous year by suicide, which left the ownership of the show’s rights in limbo.
“We love each other, we stay in touch, but who knows,” Williams remarked about the Ugly Betty cast.
However, in 2017, EW did bring the cast together for a 10-year anniversary panel discussion, during which Ferrera jokingly entertained the idea of continuing the show’s story.
“Hulu’s going to pick us up for a two-hour special, so we’re going to find out [what happened],” she quipped. “That’s not true, but if you tweet it. Everybody here take out your phone. Hashtag: Betty Reboot. We need a hashtag and tweet it out, and then we’re going to get Hulu to buy a two-hour special.”
