The Barbie soundtrack seems to be the sounds people are desperate to hear again after the Barbie film smashed the box office!
As Empire reports: “Per Deadline’s reporting, the running total on Gerwig’s subversive take on Mattel’s iconic doll is currently sitting at a sweet $528.6 million worldwide. And, as if that isn’t impressive Kenough, this dazzling box office display has seen the film surpass The Dark Knight and Aquaman’s records for consecutive weekday takings for Warner Bros.”
Right wing backlash
In an interview this week, Barbie director Greta Gerwig responded to backlash from a number of right-wing viewers over the film’s feminist content.
“Certainly, there’s a lot of passion,” Gerwig, 39, responded. “My hope for the movie is that it’s an invitation for everybody to be part of the party and let go of the things that aren’t necessarily serving us as either women or men.
“I hope that in all of that passion, if they see it or engage with it, it can give them some of the relief that it gave other people,” she added.
