Despicable Me 4 is coming, to the cinema, and the release date had been set for July 3, 2024, just two days before the set release date for the Lion King prequel.
We will get to all the rest of the info about the film, but let’s recap on the first three films first.
Franchise recap
The “Despicable Me” franchise is a highly successful animated film series produced by Illumination Entertainment. The franchise is known for its humour, heartwarming moments, and memorable characters, particularly the lovable Minions.
Here is an overview of the main films in the franchise:
Despicable Me (2010):
The first film introduces us to Gru, a supervillain with a big ego and an even bigger plan. Voiced by Steve Carell, Gru is determined to steal the moon using his army of tiny, yellow Minions. However, his plans take an unexpected turn when he adopts three young girls named Margo, Edith, and Agnes to help him with his evil scheme. As he spends time with the girls, Gru begins to experience a change of heart and discovers the joy of family. The Minions, who are devoted to Gru, become iconic and play a significant role in the film’s humor and subsequent franchise.
Despicable Me 2 (2013):
The sequel sees Gru being recruited by the Anti-Villain League (AVL) to help them take down a new villain who is using a dangerous serum to transform innocent creatures into ferocious monsters. Gru teams up with AVL agent Lucy Wilde (voiced by Kristen Wiig), and together, they work to save the world while navigating their developing feelings for each other. The Minions, as always, add comedic moments and help Gru throughout his adventures.
Despicable Me 3 (2017):
In the third installment, Gru discovers that he has a long-lost twin brother named Dru (also voiced by Steve Carell). Dru is flamboyant and eager to get into the family’s villainous business. However, Gru has retired from villainy, leading to some comedic clashes between the brothers. Meanwhile, they face off against a new formidable villain named Balthazar Bratt (voiced by Trey Parker), a former child star turned evildoer with ’80s-themed gadgets.
