The Expendables 4 film (yes we know it is officially titled Expend4bles) has had a rocky (get it?) start already.
The film hit the big screen today (22nd), but the critics (who cares what they think anyway?) has only managed to land a 15 per cent rating for the fourth instalment on Rotten Tomatoes.
The previous film, Expendables 3, had a 31% rating.
The first and second films were rated 41% and 67%, respectively.
Not great news for the franchise…
It seems members Jason Statham, Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, and Randy Couture, with Megan Fox and rapper 50 Cent joining couldn’t save them.
Expendables 4
Here are a few reviews we have picked out for you…
‘Jason Statham and Sylvester Stallone Take the Franchise to New Lows,’ said the Hollywood Reporter.
“If you really want to see a crack unit of no-nonsense professionals blow shit up, stick with Oppenheimer, wrote Empire with its two star review.
“Cigar-smoking Stallone leads way as retro franchise lumbers on,” bleated The Guardian in another 2 star review.
Adding: “…maybe advances in AI and digital avatars mean that even death will not stop these people. Let’s hope the strike by the US actors’ union, Sag-Aftra, succeeds, if only to prevent this.
Megan Fox
“Jason Statham and Megan Fox lead a tired, poorly made mess. Apologetic sequel brings back franchise veterans Sylvester Stallone and Dolph Lundgren and ups the violence from ‘Expendables 3’ – but that’s not enough,” claims the Independent, still also giving it a 2 star nod.
“Often resembling more of a mobile game than a movie, this entry is the worst in the action franchise with plenty of cheese though no charm or craft,” said Collider.
This is a ONE STAR review from The Telegraph…”Expend4bles is a sequel so dire you’ll feel that even Sylvester Stallone deserved better. This flabby fourth instalment in the action franchise hinges on a hopeless screenplay and feels woefully first-draft.”
But you know what, it is the PAYING audience that count, so don’t let these people put you off.
We all need some escapism and this will certainly provide that!
