Fans of the apocalyptic thriller “Greenland” can rejoice as its highly-anticipated sequel, “Greenland: Migration,” gears up for production with some exciting updates. Starring Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin, the original film, released in 2020, depicted a family’s struggle for survival amidst a global catastrophe.
According to Deadline, “Greenland: Migration” is set to commence filming in April 2024, with both Butler and Baccarin reprising their roles from the first installment. Additionally, Ric Roman Waugh, who directed “Greenland,” will return to helm the sequel.
Penned by Chris Sparling and Mitchell LaFortune, the script for “Greenland: Migration” promises an intense continuation of the Garrity family’s story. After seeking refuge in a bunker during the cataclysmic events of the first film, the family embarks on a perilous journey across Europe in search of a new home following the devastation caused by the comet named ‘Clarke.’
With Sparling, known for his work on suspenseful thrillers like “Buried,” and LaFortune, who collaborated with Waugh and Butler on “Kandahar,” at the helm, “Greenland: Migration” is poised to deliver another gripping narrative that expands upon the original’s premise.
Despite facing challenges during its initial release due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to a limited theatrical run and subsequent streaming release on HBO Max in the United States, “Greenland” garnered praise from audiences and critics alike. Now, with filming underway for its sequel, there’s anticipation that “Greenland: Migration” will build upon the success of its predecessor and attract a wider audience upon its eventual release.
While an official release date for “Greenland: Migration” has yet to be announced, the progress in production signals that fans won’t have to wait much longer to witness the continuation of the thrilling saga. With a stellar cast and a creative team dedicated to delivering a compelling story, expectations are high for the sequel to deliver another gripping tale of survival in the face of global catastrophe.
