Some individuals steadfastly refuse to recognise the brilliance of Disney’s impending live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.
Halle Bailey, who portrays the lead mermaid character Ariel, and Melissa McCarthy, who plays Ursula, debuted the first full-length teaser for the much awaited adaptation on Sunday during the 95th Academy Awards.
Previously, Disney had released two short teaser trailers that offered only glimpses of Ariel and her oceanic companions.
Ariel saves Prince Eric from drowning in a storm in the new two-minute clip, which has received 7.9 million views on YouTube. But, not all of the internet reviews have been kind; since it was posted on Monday, the trailer has received at least 839,000 dislikes. Only 165,000 people have liked the video.

As soon as the project was made public, there was backlash against it. The news that 22-year-old Bailey would play Ariel in 2019 sparked an immediate backlash online from some who felt a Black woman shouldn’t portray the famous mermaid princess.
This caused the hashtag #NotMyAriel to go viral on social media.
