Macaulay Culkin is set to receive a star on the prestigious Hollywood Walk of Fame, a testament to his enduring influence in the entertainment industry. Having initially captured audiences as a child star, the 43-year-old actor has become a recognizable and celebrated figure in Tinseltown.
Acknowledging Culkin’s lasting legacy, the decision has been made to award him the 2,765th star on the iconic walkway in Los Angeles. A ceremony is scheduled for December 1, featuring speeches from acclaimed actors Catherine O’Hara and Natasha Lyonne.
Ana Martinez, the Producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, remarked, “Macaulay Culkin has been a staple in pop culture for decades. He has an extensive trajectory of work, with ‘Home Alone’ standing out as one of the most beloved holiday movies globally. It’s fitting that Catherine O’Hara, who played Macaulay’s mother in the film, will reunite with her movie son and speak at the ceremony.”
Culkin took a hiatus from acting in his mid-teens after an impressive repertoire of 13 films and five TV shows as a child star. Making a gradual comeback in the mid-2000s, he secured roles in projects like ‘Robot Chicken’ and ‘Will & Grace.’ Last year alone, he contributed to three TV series, including ‘The Righteous Gemstones,’ ‘Entergalactic,’ and ‘The Paloni Show! Halloween Special.’
The journey to acquiring a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is as challenging as making it in Hollywood itself. The application process, revealed in detail, requires nominees to be recommended by someone, preferably influential. While anyone can theoretically apply, candidates are expected to have produced iconic artistic work.
Vin Di Bona, Chair of the Walk of Fame Selection Committee for 2016-2017, outlined criteria such as a minimum of five years of fame and ‘unchallengeable’ expertise within the entertainment industry. The honor comes at a cost, with a $30,000 sponsorship fee upon acceptance, half of which contributes to the star’s creation, and the other half to the Hollywood Historic Trust for maintaining the Walk of Fame’s legacy.
