Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) isn’t done with Rome just yet! The hit Netflix show Emily in Paris has been renewed for a fifth season, and fans can expect more adventures in both Paris and Rome.
“We’re thrilled with the incredible response to this season of Emily in Paris and excited to return for a fifth season to continue Emily’s adventures in both Rome and Paris,” creator Darren Star told Tudum.
A New Romance and a New City
Season 4 saw Emily spark a romance with Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini), a handsome Italian fashion heir. She even moved into an Italian apartment to help Agence Grateau open a new office in Rome. Despite the change of scenery, the show’s name won’t be changing. “Emily’s going to have a presence in Rome, but she’ll still be in Paris too,” said Star.
The decision to send Emily to Italy came from Star’s desire to “stay ahead of the audience” and take the show to “unexpected places.” He added that this move shows the series has the ability to expand its story and setting.
Success of Season 4
Emily in Paris Season 4 ranked #1 on Netflix’s Global Top 10 list when it premiered in August, reaching 19.9 million views in its first four days. The season has stayed in the Top 10 across 93 countries for four consecutive weeks.
Lily Collins, who announced the renewal news on Good Morning America, shared her excitement about what lies ahead for her character and her romance with Marcello. “Marcello is a whole new adventure for Emily. We want to see her balance work and life better and really be happy.”
What’s Next for Emily?
Darren Star confirmed that Emily’s relationship with Marcello will be further explored in Season 5. “They have a real connection, and a lot of that will continue next season,” he revealed.
But things may get complicated. Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), Emily’s neighbor and former love interest, had an epiphany in the final moments of Season 4, realizing that he still wants to be with her. Although communication issues got in the way, Gabriel is now ready to fight for Emily.
Unfortunately, according to Collins, “Gabriel will have to deal with the consequences of his choice” to end things with her.
