Stray film, the award-winning adventure game that follows the journey of a cat and a robot through a futuristic city, is coming to the big screen.
The developers at BlueTwelve Studio were the brains behind the hit.
Now Annapurna Interactive, the Annapurna Animation studio’s video game arm, has plans to adapt other games like Twelve Minutes and Outer Wilds in the future.
But Stray is the first of the pack (or clowder?)
Stray film
The game has a unique perspective through the eyes of a cat. The movie will have to find a way to replicate that, or gaming fans will feel pretty let down, you would expect.
Annapurna co-head Robert Baird said: “I think it’s one of the reasons why the game was incredibly popular, that you are seeing the world through the point of view of an adorable cat. How did they pull that off, and how are we going to pull that off in the movie? We will, even though sometimes it feels impossible, but we know that’s the essence of the game and the key to telling the story.
He has also said to EW: “This is a game that’s all about what makes us human, and there are no humans in it.
“It’s a buddy comedy about a cat and a robot, and there’s such a hilarious dynamic. So, there’s comedy inherent in this, but there’s not one human being in this movie.”
Stray is in active development but not release date as yet.
Video game
The game is set in a futuristic, cyberpunk-inspired world where players take on the role of a stray cat who becomes separated from their family and must navigate a mysterious and dystopian city inhabited by robots.
“With the help of an intelligent drone, B-12, the cat must find its way out of the city, which has apparently been abandoned by humans, but is occupied by machines, deadly Sentinel security drones, and the hostile Zurks, gigantic mutated bacteria,” reports Collider.
In Stray players explore the intricately detailed city, solve puzzles, and interact with various characters and robots to uncover the secrets of the world and reunite with their family.
The game is notable for its unique perspective, as players experience the world through the eyes of the cat, with a focus on feline behaviors such as climbing, sneaking, and using the cat’s agility to their advantage.
Stray garnered attention for its stunning visuals, intriguing premise, and the novelty of experiencing a game world from a cat’s perspective. It was released on multiple platforms, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Microsoft Windows.
