Many fans believed The Equalizer 3 would mark the end of the popular action franchise. However, Denzel Washington has revealed that two more Equalizer films are on the way.
The Equalizer Films Continue
In The Equalizer 2, director Antoine Fuqua introduced a unique ability for Washington’s character, Robert McCall. Known as “Equalizer Vision,” it allowed McCall to instantly locate weapons in a room and know how to use them effectively. The film went on to earn $190 million at the box office. The Equalizer 3 matched that success. Now, Washington is using his “Equalizer Vision” to predict a bright future for the franchise.
“I told them I would do another Equalizer, and we’re doing four and five,” Washington shared in a recent interview with Esquire. While many fans thought The Equalizer 3 would be the final chapter, Washington confirmed that there are two more films in the works.
Washington’s Commitment to the Franchise
Washington expressed his excitement about continuing the franchise. “More people are happy about that—people love those daggone Equalizers,” he said. He added, “The Equalizer films are for me too, because they’re for the people. They want me to go get the bad guys. ‘We can’t get them, so you go get them.’ And I say, ‘Okay, I’ll get them! Just wait right there. I’ll be right back!’”
While Washington is the first to announce the sequels, there is no official release date yet for either film. Fans can likely expect director Antoine Fuqua to return in some capacity for the upcoming movies. Although McCall’s character was retired at the end of The Equalizer 3, there is always another mission waiting to pull him back in.
