Disney has unveiled the first trailer for the much-anticipated live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch. The teaser offers a glimpse of the chaos that Stitch, the mischievous blue alien, is sure to bring to the big screen.
A Familiar Story with a New Twist
Based on the beloved 2002 animated classic, the live-action film centres around Lilo Pelekai, a young orphaned Hawaiian girl. After losing their parents, Lilo is raised by her older sister, Nani. In an effort to heal their fractured family, Lilo adopts an alien creature, which she names Stitch. Despite his initial destructive nature, Stitch grows close to Lilo, slowly learning the importance of love and family.
Director and Cast
Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, with a script by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright, the live-action remake promises to capture the heart and spirit of the original. The film is scheduled for release in cinemas on May 23, 2025.
Chris Sanders, who voiced and co-directed the 2002 version, returns to lend his voice to Stitch. Sanders shared his excitement about the film, describing the script as “really cool” and noting that it’s gratifying to see the character still beloved by fans. He teased that he has seen some of the new film’s content, though he remained tight-lipped about the details.
Returning Cast and New Faces
Tia Carrere, who voiced Nani in the animated film, will reprise her role as Mrs Kekoa in the live-action remake. Amy Hill also returns, portraying Tūtū, Lilo and Nani’s neighbour. The remake’s ensemble cast includes familiar names like Zach Galifianakis from Only Murders in the Building, Hannah Waddingham from Ted Lasso, and Billy Magnussen from Road House. Newcomers Maia Kealoha, Sydney Agudong, Kaipo Dudoit, and Courtney B. Vance will also star.
Fans of the original will be delighted to see many familiar faces, both in front of and behind the camera. Lilo & Stitch’s live-action remake is set to bring the heartwarming tale to a new generation, while keeping the core essence of the original film intact.
