Disney has finally dropped the first trailer for Freakier Friday, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2003 hit Freaky Friday. Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are back, and this time, the body-swapping chaos gets even messier.
The film hits cinemas on 8 August 2025 and promises a multigenerational twist that takes the classic formula to a whole new level.
Chaos Times Four
The trailer shows Anna (Lohan) and Tess (Curtis) waking up in each other’s bodies again — but there’s a twist. This time, Anna’s daughter (Julia Butters) and her soon-to-be stepdaughter (Sophia Hammons) also get caught in the body-swap nightmare.
The official logline sums it up:
“Years after Tess and Anna endured an identity crisis, Anna now has a daughter and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the challenges of merging two families, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might strike twice.”
So, not just one body swap — but four. What could possibly go wrong?
Familiar Faces and New Additions
Adding to the nostalgia, Chad Michael Murray makes a dramatic comeback as Jake, rolling up on his motorbike like it’s 2003 all over again.
Original cast members Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao are also returning.
Joining the chaos are new faces Manny Jacinto and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan.
Nostalgia Meets New Music
Director Nisha Ganatra helms the sequel, which was first teased at the D23 Expo when Curtis and Lohan revealed the film’s title.
Filming wrapped in August 2024, and in November, Lohan thrilled fans by confirming that her fictional band Pink Slip will be back with new music.
The original Freaky Friday (2003) — itself a remake of the 1976 classic starring Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris — became a box office hit and remains a fan favourite. Now, Freakier Friday looks set to capture that same magic for a new generation.
