A fan has cobbled together a trailer imagining what it’d be like if the Wet Bandits, Harry and Marv, were released from prison in 2024 and decided to settle the score with their childhood nemesis, Kevin McCallister. Spoiler: it’s not exactly the festive family reunion you might expect.
A Nostalgic Twist (with a Side of Revenge)
The parody trailer, titled Kevin’s Revenge, reimagines the dynamic of the original Home Alone films, swapping light-hearted booby traps for what could easily be a pitch for the Saw franchise. With Kevin now a full-grown adult and the Wet Bandits presumably nursing decades of grudges (and some serious head injuries), this reunion would be anything but jolly.
A Quick History of Painful Festive Hijinks
The first Home Alone, released in 1990 (yes, it’s been over 30 years, feeling older now?), followed eight-year-old Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) as he fended off the hapless burglars with a series of increasingly brutal traps. While Kevin learned the importance of family and the meaning of Christmas, audiences tuned in mainly for the third act, where Joe Pesci’s Harry and Daniel Stern’s Marv endured an escalating series of injuries that defied both physics and basic human anatomy.
The 1992 sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, upped the ante, relocating Kevin to the Big Apple and putting Harry and Marv through another round of cartoonishly horrific injuries—only this time, Kevin’s traps felt less like a kid improvising and more like he’d studied advanced warfare.
A Third Film… Sort Of
Now, before you get too excited about a new movie, it’s worth noting that there already was a Home Alone 3—and even a Home Alone 4. The real Home Alone 3 dropped in 1997, but it didn’t star Macaulay Culkin or the Wet Bandits. Instead, it featured a new kid, Alex Pruitt (played by Alex D. Linz), who squared off against a quartet of international criminals working for a Hong Kong terrorist organisation. Yes, really. It was a bit of a departure from the whimsical charm of the original, to say the least.
The Wet Bandits: Revenge Edition
This fan-made trailer, however, brings the focus back to Kevin and his infamous adversaries. The premise? After years in prison, Harry and Marv get out and decide their best move is to go after Kevin, now a grown man in his prime. Judging by the trailer’s tone, it seems less about festive cheer and more about final revenge—and probably some therapy-inducing traps for old time’s sake.
What About Home Alone 4
For completionists, Home Alone 4: Taking Back the House (2002) brought Kevin McCallister back—sort of. Played by a new actor (Mike Weinberg), this entry saw Kevin dealing with his parents’ divorce and a return of Marv (this time portrayed by French Stewart instead of Daniel Stern). Suffice it to say, the reviews were dreadful, and it’s best left as a footnote in the franchise’s history.
Can This Fan Trailer Become a Real Movie?
If you’re hoping to see Kevin’s Revenge in cinemas, you’d need some serious cash—and the rights to the Home Alone franchise. But with 90s nostalgia still in full swing, who knows? Maybe Hollywood will decide that adult Kevin taking on his ageing adversaries is exactly what we need this Christmas. Until then, we’ll just have to enjoy this fan-made gem—and rewatch Harry and Marv’s original pratfall-filled pain for the hundredth time.
