A Long-Awaited Sequel
The announcement of I Am Legend 2 was made in March 2022. The original film, released in 2007, follows scientist Robert Neville, played by Will Smith, who is left as one of the few survivors after a deadly disease transforms most humans into zombie-like creatures. The film is based on the 1954 novel by Richard Matheson.
The Return of Will Smithâs Character
Will Smith has previously teased more details about the sequel. In December 2023, he mentioned that although his character dies in the theatrical version of the first film, an alternate ending on the DVD shows that Neville survives. “We are going with the mythology of the DVD version where my character lived,” Smith confirmed.
A Familiar Face Behind the Scenes
Akiva Goldsman, who co-wrote the original I Am Legend film, will also return to write the sequel.
