Disney confirmed last summer that The Devil Wears Prada is getting a sequel. Meryl Streep will reprise her iconic role as Miranda Priestly, but the rest of the cast remains uncertain. Anne Hathaway’s return as Andy is still up in the air, though other familiar faces have been linked to the project.
Speaking to Collider, Stanley Tucci—who played the ever-charming Nigel—offered a cryptic update when asked about filming.
“I cannot answer that question on the grounds that it will incriminate so many people,” he joked, before adding, “No, look, we’re planning on doing it. When and if it comes to fruition, I’ll be thrilled. That’s all I can say. I’m sorry.”
Emily Blunt is keeping quiet too
Tucci isn’t the only one playing coy. His Devil Wears Prada co-star (and real-life sister-in-law) Emily Blunt also avoided giving too much away.
When People asked about the sequel, she responded, “What sequel? Oh my god, I can’t tell you anything! I just wanna get some good eye makeup going again. I’ve gotta get a stomach flu and some eye makeup in there. I’m hoping for that!”
Blunt played Emily, Miranda Priestly’s high-strung assistant, opposite Hathaway’s Andy. The film helped launch both their careers, solidifying Hathaway as a Hollywood star and giving Blunt her breakthrough role. Since then, Blunt has starred in A Quiet Place, Into the Woods, and Oppenheimer, while Hathaway has built an impressive career across genres.
What will ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ be about?
Reports suggest the sequel will follow Miranda Priestly as she faces the harsh reality of being out of fashion. Meanwhile, Emily—now a high-powered executive at an advertising firm—emerges as her competition.
Whether Andy fits into this story remains unknown. Hathaway is the only key cast member who hasn’t been mentioned in reports since the sequel’s confirmation.
The original 2006 film remains a fan favourite, with a 75% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Nearly 20 years later, fans’ patience is finally paying off. Director David Frankel and producer Wendy Finerman, who worked on the first film, are returning, ensuring the sequel is in familiar hands.
When will it be released?
No filming or release timeline has been confirmed yet, but The Devil Wears Prada 2 is expected to arrive in 2026.
