In the aftermath of Hollywood’s post-strike reorganization, Netflix has made the tough decision to cancel five shows, including the fantasy drama Shadow and Bone.
Confirmed by IGN, the list of casualties also includes the likes of Glamorous, featuring Kim Cattrall, and animated series Agent Elvis, Farzar, and Captain Fall. The news, first reported by Deadline Hollywood on Wednesday, reveals that the cancellations were influenced by a delicate balance between viewership and production costs. Complicating matters further were scheduling conflicts arising post-strikes, as actors return to sets and Hollywood rushes to resume production on delayed projects.
Shadow and Bone, originally envisioned as a potential fantasy franchise for Netflix, drew inspiration from Leigh Bardugo’s popular Grishaverse novels. Notably, it is the only show among the cancellations to have received more than one season, with its second season having premiered in March.
Captain Fall, with its planned 20-episode first season, scheduled to be split into two parts, premiered its initial 10 episodes in July. However, details regarding the release date for the second half remain uncertain.
Agent Elvis, adopting an Archer-style animated format, humorously depicted Elvis Presley’s actual desire to become a secret agent. Despite earning a 7/10 from IGN, as a “raucous, funny, and loving tribute to Elvis, the man, and his myth,” it joins the list of canceled shows.
Glamorous, a comedy-drama series starring Kim Cattrall and YouTuber Miss Benny, premiered in June and focused on the beauty industry. Lastly, Farzar, a sci-fi animated series, made its Netflix debut in July 2022.
As Netflix refines its content strategy in the wake of industry shifts, these cancellations mark the end of the road for several shows, leaving viewers to bid farewell to the diverse array of stories that once held a place in the streaming giant’s lineup.
