Another adaptation of a Stephen King classic is almost finished.
Since last summer, there haven’t been many updates on Pet Sematary, a prequel to the 1989 feature adaptation of the horror master’s 1983 bestseller. Nevertheless, this week, Deadline says that the movie is in post-production and will air on Paramount+ later this year.
Even if it’s just a crumb, good news is better than no news at all.
This information is related to another report concerning Lindsey Beer, the writer and director of the prequel, who recently signed a first-look contract with Paramount to produce, write, and direct feature films.
According to reports, the deal comprises a number of ongoing initiatives that are being kept secret for the time being.
The Pet Sematary prequel–as reported here in Horror News Network last year–stars Jackson White, Forrest Goodluck, Jack Mulhern, Natalie Alyn Lind, Isabella Star LaBlanc, Pam Grier, Henry Thomas and Samantha Mathis.
While specific plot details still have not been revealed, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has described the film as a prequel. “I think if you look at the book, we didn’t cover all the staff that happens before the Creed family moves in,” he said.
And then there’s the fact that White’s character has been described as a younger Jud Crandall–a character who’s the elderly neighbor of the Creeds in the original story.
The original Pet Sematary–directed by Mary Lambert from King’s screenplay–received mixed reviews, but still earned $57.5 million on an $11.5-million budget and spawned a successful 2019 reboot.
