In a surprising move reminiscent of blockbuster crossovers like “Avengers: Infinity War,” a new film is gearing up to unite iconic children’s characters in a low-budget horror extravaganza.
Following the success of “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey,” which transformed the lovable bear into a feral serial killer, filmmakers have announced “Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble.” This project, led by Jagged Edge Productions and ITN Studios, will bring together a slew of beloved characters turned malevolent for a cinematic frenzy slated for release in 2025.
The “Poohniverse” will feature Winnie the Pooh alongside twisted versions of characters such as Bambi, Tinkerbell, Pinocchio, Peter Pan, Tigger, Piglet, The Mad Hatter, and Sleeping Beauty. The poster for the film, exclusively revealed by Variety, showcases Pooh wielding a bear trap while riding a bloodthirsty Bambi.
Scott Chambers, actor-producer at Jagged Edge, expressed the team’s excitement, stating, “As horror fans, we would love an Avengers that is all villains… We can make it happen in our own little way, and that’s where this film has been born.”
The characters slated to appear in “Poohniverse” will first star in standalone films within Jagged Edge’s Twisted Childhood Universe. Titles such as “Bambi: The Reckoning,” “Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare,” and “Pinocchio Unstrung” are set to establish the groundwork for the horrifying crossover.
Director Rhys Jake-Waterfield, known for his work on “Blood and Honey” and its sequel, emphasized the creative freedom afforded by the self-contained universe. “We’ve got access to all these concepts, so it’s like a self-contained bubble and we can do what we want with them,” he said.
The loose plot of “Poohniverse” will see the monstrous ensemble teaming up to confront survivors from previous films. However, tensions within the group will lead to internal conflict and epic clashes between characters.
The cast includes Scott Chambers reprising his role as Christopher Robin, alongside Megan Plactio as Wendy Darling, Roxanne Mckee as Xana, and Lewis Santer as Tigger, with more announcements expected.
“Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble” is a Jagged Edge Production in collaboration with ITN Studios, with Stuart Alson and Nicole Holland serving as executive producers for ITN.
Meanwhile, “Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2,” produced by ITN Studios and Jagged Edge, is set to hit cinemas on March 26, 27, and 28 through Fathom Events.
