Donald Trump has unleashed a tirade against a new biopic about his life, branding it as “fake” and “classless.” The film, titled The Apprentice, stars Sebastian Stan as Trump and Jeremy Strong as Roy Cohn, his ruthless mentor. The movie explores their relationship during Trump’s rise in 1970s New York.
Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to slam the film, claiming it’s a “cheap, defamatory, and politically disgusting hatchet job” designed to damage his reputation before the 2024 presidential election. He also questioned whether the filmmakers had the right to use the name The Apprentice, the same title as his famous reality show.
In his rant, Trump targeted writer Gabriel Sherman, calling him a “lowlife and talentless hack” and criticized the portrayal of his former wife, Ivana Trump, who passed away in 2022. Trump added that he had a great relationship with Ivana up until her death, something he claimed Sherman ignored in the film.
Sherman, who has covered Trump for decades, told Entertainment Weekly that the most shocking moments in the film are based on real events. He stated that the script was thoroughly vetted for accuracy, and every dramatized scene was rooted in factual research.
Trump, furious at the film’s portrayal, described the people involved in its production as “human scum” and expressed hope that the biopic would fail at the box office.
The film comes out just months before the 2024 presidential election, adding to the political tension surrounding Trump’s re-election campaign.
