If you thought Dexter: New Blood was the final nail in our favourite serial killer’s coffin, think again. Dexter: Resurrection has officially started filming, bringing Michael C Hall back for yet another twisted chapter in Showtime’s long-running thriller.
Third Time’s the Charm?
Fans have already said goodbye to Dexter Morgan twice—once after the divisive Dexter season 8 finale, and again with the mixed reception to New Blood. Now, showrunner Clyde Phillips (who’s tried this before) is hoping for a home run, backed by original cast members David Zayas (Angel Batista) and James Remar (Harry Morgan), as well as new blood Jack Alcott (Harrison).
Director Marcos Siega, who worked on New Blood, has posted snaps from a very snowy set—consistent with the frosty atmosphere we’ve come to expect from Dexter’s chilling world.
Release Date Speculation
Paramount is targeting a summer 2025 launch for Dexter: Resurrection. Filming kicked off in January 2025, so that timeline seems pretty plausible. The final season of the original series also premiered in the summer (June 2013), so maybe the streamer’s eyeing a similar schedule. Plus, it neatly follows the Valentine’s Day finale of prequel series Original Sin.
We’ll keep you posted the moment an official release date is announced.
Who’s in the Cast?
- Michael C Hall: The once (and future) Dexter Morgan
- David Zayas: Detective Angel Batista, back in a bigger role than just a cameo
- James Remar: Dexter’s dearly departed adoptive father, Harry
- Jack Alcott: Young Harrison Morgan, who’s got a few daddy issues left to sort out
Fans can expect even more casting news in due course—because let’s face it, Dexter’s always had a knack for attracting both prey and predators.
What’s the Story?
Dexter: Resurrection picks up right after the jaw-dropping opening of Dexter: Original Sin, which revealed Dexter somehow survived his gunshot wound from New Blood. Turns out a zero-degree snowstorm can do wonders for stopping you from bleeding out, as showrunner Clyde Phillips teased.
Why come back for a second “final chapter”? Well, let’s just say New Blood didn’t exactly win universal praise. Now, Phillips and Hall are determined to give the character a send-off that won’t set the internet on fire—unless it’s in a good way.
“The internet hated [the New Blood ending],” Phillips said. “I didn’t want [Dexter] going off to prison or disappearing into the fog… so I decided to be bold.”
Here’s hoping the third time really is the charm, and that Dexter finally gets the ending he deserves.
