X-Men: First Class Director Matthew Vaughn Envisions Deadpool 3 as the MCU’s Savior: “It’s Going To Bring That Body Back To Life”

In the wake of recent challenges faced by the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Matthew Vaughn, director of X-Men: First Class, asserts that Deadpool 3 holds the potential to revive the excitement surrounding the franchise. The MCU has encountered criticism, underwhelming box office performance, and a sense of fatigue among audiences, prompting doubts about the universe’s current trajectory. Vaughn believes that Deadpool 3, slated as Marvel’s only 2024 movie, has the capacity to rejuvenate the MCU.

The upcoming film, the third installment featuring Ryan Reynolds as the irreverent Merc With A Mouth, is generating considerable anticipation due to the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. While Marvel has kept details under wraps, Vaughn expressed enthusiasm about the film’s narrative and its potential impact on the MCU. Speaking on BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast, the Argylle director predicted that Deadpool 3’s story would serve as a “jolt” to breathe new life into the Marvel universe.

“That’s going to be the jolt… the Marvel universe is about to have a jolt of them, and it’s going to bring that body back to life… I think Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are about to save the whole Marvel universe.”

Evaluating Deadpool 3’s Role in Rescuing the MCU

While the MCU remains far from dormant, Vaughn acknowledges the need for a catalyst to re-engage audiences, especially in anticipation of Avengers 5. Recent setbacks include unfavorable reviews for films like “The Marvels” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” coupled with a sense of viewer exhaustion due to the continuous influx of movies and TV shows. These issues have resulted in diminishing box office returns and reduced viewership on Disney+.

Despite its potential, Deadpool 3 faces certain considerations in its bid to rescue the MCU. Primarily, the film must deliver a compelling narrative, and the successful track record of Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy raises hopes for this outcome. The return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine is expected to boost the film’s financial prospects, but the overall quality will determine its box office success. Additionally, Deadpool 3 has the opportunity to set the MCU on a connective path, potentially leading to a convergence of storylines and concluding the Multiverse Saga. This strategic direction could reignite viewer interest and support Vaughn’s belief that Deadpool 3 has the power to save the MCU.
