In 2023, Yellowjackets made a triumphant return for its highly anticipated second season on Showtime. While the series has been notably absent from Netflix, recent developments reveal that the streaming giant has secured the rights to the show for specific Latin American countries.
Hailing as one of Showtime’s major series in recent years, Yellowjackets, created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, revolves around a high school soccer team forced to survive in the remote Canadian wilderness after a plane crash. The ensemble cast features notable names such as Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sarah Desjardins, Ella Purnell, Juliette Lewis, and Sophie Nélisse, among others.
The show’s popularity has led to its recent renewal for a third season, indicating a promising future. Fans in select Latin American countries can rejoice, as Yellowjackets is set to premiere on Netflix in mid-December 2023.
Netflix Brazil, as announced by Netflix Portal on Twitter/X, is scheduled to receive the show on December 15th, and this confirmation extends to all Latin American countries, including Argentina and Mexico. While Netflix India is also slated to feature the series, the specific release date remains unconfirmed at this time.
It’s worth noting that Yellowjackets is not a Netflix production; the majority of its rights are held by Showtime and Paramount+. Paramount+ absorbed the Showtime lineup, leading to the discontinuation of most separate Showtime apps. As a result, for viewers outside the aforementioned Latin American countries, the series is exclusively available on Paramount+.
There are, however, two exceptions to this rule—the United Kingdom and Canada. In the UK, Yellowjackets was acquired by Sky Atlantic and is accessible on Sky’s Now service. Meanwhile, in Canada, the show found a home on Crave, allowing Canadian viewers to enjoy the gripping drama.
