While the anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI and Red Dead Redemption 3 remains high among Rockstar Games enthusiasts, a faction of fans is rallying behind an unconventional plea for the recreation of The Warriors for the latest gaming consoles – PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Even as Rockstar Games diligently focuses on the development of GTA VI, slated for a reveal in the imminent months, and the commitment to perfection declared by Rockstar’s publisher Take-Two Interactive, aficionados of the Red Dead Redemption series are contemplating the possibilities of Red Dead Redemption 3 or a potential remaster of the original Red Dead Redemption. The protagonist’s voice actor has openly expressed eagerness to reprise the role in the series.
Surprisingly, some fans are shifting their attention to other Rockstar intellectual properties (IPs), harboring hopes for their revival through remakes or remasters. One such candidate is the 2005 action beat-em-up, The Warriors, originally released for the original Xbox and PlayStation 2. A petition advocating for the remake of this game has garnered almost 5000 signatures.
The Warriors, inspired by the 1979 film of the same name, immerses players in the perilous and gritty landscape of New York City, teeming with gang conflicts and brutal street skirmishes. Lauded for its emphasis on melee combat, the game received positive reviews for its controls and faithful adaptation of the film.
Although the game experienced a re-release on PS3 and PS4 in subsequent years, it seems to have faded from the forefront of Rockstar’s and its fans’ consciousness. However, not everyone has forgotten, as exemplified by Jaiden Thornton, the initiator of the petition advocating for the game’s remake. Thornton emphasizes the need for a complete overhaul and graphical enhancement rather than a mere remaster. In the petition, Thornton asserts, “I believe that The Warriors deserves a complete remake and graphic overhaul, not a remaster where it ends up bad, and I know Rockstar Games can do this because of the money they are making from Red Dead Redemption 2 Online and Grand Theft Auto V Online. [The Warriors] would look gorgeous if this game was remade and released with a collector’s edition on the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X, and for the PC.”
While it appears improbable that Rockstar will divert resources from their ongoing GTA and Red Dead series, the prospect of resurrecting titles like The Warriors, as well as other popular games such as Bully or Manhunt, is a sentiment shared by enthusiasts.
