Donald Trump has raised the idea of setting up a government fund to compensate people prosecuted for their role in the January 6 Capitol riot. Yes, it’s true.
But that’s not all. Trump’s administration, working alongside Elon Musk’s “Department of Government Efficiency” (Doge), has recently axed nearly $1bn worth of contracts from the US Department of Education. This includes eliminating a research office that tracked students’ progress across the country.
Let’s break it down.
💸 Major cuts to the budget
First up, the cuts. The US Department of the Treasury is planning to lay off a large number of staff as part of efforts to reduce the size of the federal government. This is all tied to the “Department of Government Efficiency,” which sounds like a clever name, but it’s clear that some programs are being chopped left and right.
At the same time, the Department of Education is losing nearly $1bn in contracts. This funding was used to monitor the progress of students in the US, but now it’s gone.
All of this is part of Trump’s broader plan to trim down government spending.
🏛️ Paying rioters – seriously?
And now, for the controversial part: Trump has suggested compensating the rioters from January 6.
He mentioned the possibility of setting up a compensation fund for those he pardoned after the Capitol attack. Yes, those same individuals who were involved in the riot that disrupted the certification of the 2020 election results.
Aaron Rupar, who shared the clip, tweeted: “Trump says he’s looking at setting up some sort of government ‘compensation fund’ for the January 6 criminals he pardoned.”
While it’s still unclear if this plan will actually happen, it’s certainly raising eyebrows.
🧠 What’s next?
Trump’s team has already started implementing significant changes in government spending. However, whether these ideas will come to fruition is still uncertain.
What we do know is that Trump’s cuts are reshaping how the government works, and it’s all happening as we watch. From education to federal staffing, it seems like there’s more to come. And whether his plan to compensate the rioters will go anywhere remains to be seen.
