Ms. Truss knew Wednesday was a big one, a chance to defend what was less of a mini-budget and more of an electoral suicide letter. She is currently the least popular party leader since YouGov began polling.
Since the Birmingham conference, the pound has declined even further, the Bank of England hinted that it might stop providing assistance, and her business secretary has stated that none of this has anything to do with government policy.
Unfortunately for Truss, it didn’t go to plan. Her PMQs performance has been slaughtered, even from usual supporters of Liz Truss.
One particular comment really struck a nerve with lawyer and social media activist Peter Stefanovic, when Truss said “Nurses do a brilliant job” before telling MP’s that nurses must accept another real terms pay cut.
