Joe Biden has dodged talks about a post-Brexit trade deal with the UK during his visit to Northern Ireland. That was the one we were promised would be done in no time after Brexit.
The US President met Rishi Sunak in Belfast on Wednesday, but the pair did not discuss a free trade agreement, a White House official said.
Ahead of the meeting, National Security Council Senior Director for Europe Amanda Sloat said: “I don’t anticipate that the two leaders are going to be talking about a free trade agreement on this trip.”
Former party leader Dame Arlene Foster had claimed “Joe Biden hates the UK”, while DUP MP Sammy Wilson said the president was “anti-British” and had shown “antipathy towards Protestants”.
Mogg
Now Jacob Rees-Mogg has claimed that: “Biden is in Northern Ireland to launch his election campaign, he has never been friendly to the UK.”
’Joe Biden is now coming to wrap himself in a green flag for the election in 2024 – not for the special relationship’, he added.
On the ‘special relationship,’ it seems that Mogg has admitted that the special relationship is one way.
The US, he admits, has special relationships with many other countries.
This would seem from Mogg’s argument that if everyone has a special relationship with the US, then nobody does?
Also, Mogg says it doesn’t matter as India is going to be the most important trading partner.
