This is the story that will likely not give you sleepless nights, as a Brexiter has moaned Brexit has ruined his fun retirement plans.
The headline of the story is ‘I voted for Brexit and was told it wouldn’t affect expats – now I can’t live in my £13,000 Italian house.’
Greg Walter, from Winchester, says he voted for Brexit, but now feels betrayed.
Brexit wrecked retirement
“We were told Brexit was not going to impact our life abroad, that it would be just a matter of formality,” Mr Walter, a former construction worker, told i.
“People who had second homes in Europe, or planned to buy one, were never given the correct information on the vote outcome.”
Brexit climbdown
It comes as PM Rishi Sunak has performed another Brexit climbdown by allowing firms to continue using the EU’s ‘CE’ safety mark on products ‘indefinitely’.
He has taken the action following complaints from businesses about added bureaucracy with the introduction of a British alternative.
Business minister Kevin Hollinrake said: ‘The Government is tackling red tape, cutting burdens for business, and creating certainty for firms – we have listened to industry, and we are taking action to deliver.
‘By extending CE marking use across the UK, firms can focus their time and money on creating jobs and growing the economy.’
Stephen Phipson, CEO of Make UK, the manufacturers’ organisation said: ‘This is a pragmatic and common sense decision that manufacturers will very much welcome and support.
‘This announcement will help safeguard the competitiveness of manufacturers and aid the UK as a destination for investment.
‘It should bring more confidence about doing business in the UK and recognises the need to work with the reality of doing business.’
