Doctors’ strike: Daily Mail’s front page has backfired

The Daily Mail went after the 'hard-left union leader' behind doctors' strikes.

The Daily Mail had an angry (as ever) front page. They claim that ‘the hard-left union leader behind the most disruptive strike in NHS history goes on HOLIDAY – just as junior doctors walk out, bringing fear and misery to patients – ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

It comes as thousands of junior doctors in England are on the second day of a four-day strike in pursuit of their campaign to achieve “full pay restoration” after a significant loss of earnings since 2008-09. It is expected that up to 350,000 appointments and operations could be cancelled as a result.

Wait till they find out the Health Secretary Steve Barclay is indeed on holiday, the Daily Mail is going to be livid. #TomorrowsPapersToday #JuniorDoctorsStrike pic.twitter.com/fOBcS1ynzW

It seems the paper is correct Dr Robert Laurenson going on already planned leave in order to attend a friend’s wedding, but where is the Health Sec Steve Barclay?

ON HOLIDAY!

Never mind the @TheBMA co-chair Dr Robert Laurenson going on already planned leave in order to attend a friend's wedding. Where the hell is @SteveBarclay and what has he been doing over the past few months when he should have been negotiating to avert the #JuniorDoctorsStikes? https://t.co/6EDFvmFTvZ

Former Sun editor Kelvin Mackenzie still thinks the Daily Mail had a scoop and the doctor is getting paid.
