It has been claimed that Elon Musk is telling Republican lawmakers in private meetings that he is not to blame for the mass firings of federal workers under the DOGE.
Also, Trump has reportedly told his cabinet that they are actually in charge of hiring and firing, not Musk.
The new Trump administration created and then expanded the so-called “department of government efficiency” (Doge) and put the unelected Musk in charge of it, with a mandate to slash jobs and costs across the federal government despite critics’ outcry about a growing US oligarchy.
Musk and Trump seem surprised that constituents are angry over the firings of thousands of federal workers, including military veterans. Who knew?
“Elon doesn’t fire people,” said Rep. Richard Hudson, R-N.C., after a meeting with Musk.
“He doesn’t have hiring and firing authority,” added Hudson, who leads the House Republicans’ campaign arm. “The president’s empowered him to go uncover this information, that’s it.”
Trump also told reporters at the White House: “I don’t want to see a big cut where a lot of good people are cut.”
Then, after suggesting that cabinet and agency leaders would take the lead, he said Musk could push harder down the line.
“If they can cut, it’s better. And if they don’t cut, then Elon will do the cutting,” Trump said.
It’s a remarkable shift of emphasis away from the South African tech entrepreneur.
One of the many people fighting back against DOGE is Governor Tim Walz who wrote on X: “In Minnesota, we value the people who care for our veterans, even if DOGE doesn’t. If Trump fired you, come work for the State of Minnesota and help take care of our vets.”

Space X
Musk isn’t having a great couple of days as a SpaceX rocket exploded shortly after it was launched from Texas on Thursday, grounding flights and triggering warnings about falling spaceship debris.
The rocket ship company confirmed the space ship had suffered “a rapid unscheduled disassembly” during its ascent into space, and lost contact with the ground.
SpaceX, which is owned by billionaire Elon Musk, said teams immediately started co-ordinating with safety officials for “pre-planned contingency responses”.
A statement from SpaceX would review data “to better understand [the] root cause” of the misfire and noted the explosion happened after the loss of “several” engines.
“As always, success comes from what we learn, and today’s flight will offer additional lessons to improve Starship’s reliability.”
In the more distant future, Musk wants Starship to make long-haul trips to Mars and back – about a nine-month trip each way.
Good point?
