Anyone celebrating St George’s Day today will be doing so five days too early as the Church of England has put back this year’s celebration day to Monday, April 28.
St George’s day is usually celebrated on 23 April every year, but the Church of England has changed the date this year because no saint’s day can take place in the week before or after Easter.
A note issued by the church says: “When St George’s Day or St Mark’s Day falls between Palm Sunday and the Second Sunday of Easter inclusive, it is transferred to the Monday after the Second Sunday of Easter.
“If both fall in this period, St George’s Day is transferred to the Monday and St Mark’s Day to the Tuesday.”
This means St George’s Day has been ‘transferred’ from today, Wednesday, April 23 to next Monday, April 28.
This person isn’t happy after Number 10 posted a happy St George’s Day. He wrote: “Your St. George’s Day post on 23rd April 2025 shows your ignorance of England’s patron saint—CoE rules moved it to 28th April due to Easter (20th-27th April). A PM clueless about his nation’s traditions and basic Christian calendar is a disgrace.”
It seems others don’t care what date it is on, they won’t be celebrating…
Lee Anderson missed the memo…
This message might help some people out?
“So fed up of seeing false info today… the Church of England has moved St George’s Day to April 28th to respect the liturgical calendar and maintain the sanctity of the Easter celebrations. So not because of any other religious or cultural reasons, just good ol’ Christianity!”
