JD Vance is at it again—this time taking aim at Denmark and, apparently, all of Europe.
It all kicked off as Usha Vance, wife of the vice president, prepared to lead a US delegation to Greenland. She’ll be joined by White House national security adviser Mike Waltz and energy secretary Chris Wright.
According to White House spokesperson Brian Hughes, the visit is all about diplomacy. “This is a visit to learn about Greenland, its culture, history, and people. And to attend a dogsled race the United States is proud to sponsor, plain and simple.”
But not everyone is buying that explanation.
🇬🇱 Greenland’s Prime Minister hits back
Greenland’s Prime Minister, Mute B. Egede, isn’t thrilled about the visit. Calling it “highly aggressive,” he questioned Waltz’s presence on the island.
“What is the national security adviser doing in Greenland? The only purpose is to demonstrate power over us,” Egede told Greenlandic newspaper Sermitsiaq. “His mere presence in Greenland will no doubt fuel American belief in Trump’s mission—and the pressure will increase.”
Meanwhile, Donald Trump has been banging the drum about US-Greenland relations, claiming the islanders are embracing America’s interest. “They’re calling us. We’re not calling them. And we were invited over there,” he said on Monday.
🗣️ JD Vance turns up the volume
Not one to miss an opportunity for a headline, JD Vance weighed in with some choice words. He declared Denmark “not a good ally” and insisted that no “screaming Europeans” would stop the US from taking Greenland.
Yes, you read that right.
Denmark, which oversees Greenland’s foreign affairs, has yet to respond to Vance’s comments. But given the diplomatic tensions already brewing, it’s safe to say this row is far from over.
