Former footballer Joey Barton, 42, has been found guilty of assaulting his wife at their family home in southwest London.
Westminster Magistrates’ Court delivered the verdict on Tuesday afternoon, following evidence from both Georgia Barton and the police.
The incident happened in June 2021 after Barton returned from a night out with two other couples. Their children were asleep upstairs when the attack took place.
What Happened That Night?
Just after 11pm, Mrs Barton called 999, telling the operator her husband had “just hit me in the house”.
In a tearful call, she said:
- “He’s in the house, I’m outside.”
- When asked if this had happened before, she replied: “No, it’s the first time.”
- She also confirmed she had been hit “in the face”.
Police Arrive at the Scene
Officers arrived around 11:30pm, where Mrs Barton told them:
“I’ve been pushed down and kicked about and stuff.”
Her account, along with the 999 recording, formed key evidence in the case.
