A video of various interviews in which JD Vance has criticised President Donald Trump in the past has gone viral. People were quick to point out the Vice President’s hypocrisy.
It comes as Sir Keir Starmer has paid tribute to British veterans who fought in Iraq, after US Vice-President JD Vance was accused of disrespecting UK troops. Vance was criticised for saying a US stake in Ukraine’s economy was a “better security guarantee than 20,000 troops from some random country that hasn’t fought a war in 30 or 40 years”.
Starmer told the House of Commons: “Tomorrow marks 13 years since six young British soldiers were on patrol in Afghanistan when their vehicle was struck by an explosive tragically killing them all.”
He added: “These men fought and died for their country, our country. And across the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, 642 individuals died fighting for Britain alongside our allies, many more were wounded.
“We will never forget their bravery and their sacrifice, and I know the whole House will join me in remembering them and all those who serve our country.”
Vance video
In one clip, from a conversation between Vance and Charlie Rose in 2016, he can be seen saying: “I’m a ‘never Trump guy’, I never liked him.” In another clip from the same year, Vance can be heard telling The Matt Jones Podcast that he agreed with the host’s view that Trump was a “total fraud”. “Like I said, I agree with you on Trump, because I don’t think that he’s the person. I don’t think he actually cares about folks,” Vance states.
Vance’s criticism of Trump also extended to newspaper articles. In April 2016, he wrote in the New York Times: “Mr. Trump is unfit for our nation’s highest office.” He also posted a tweet that read: “Trump makes people I care about afraid. Immigrants, Muslims, etc. Because of this I find him reprehensible. God wants better of us.”
