A Sinn Fein Gaza speech has gone viral as the party has reaffirmed that it sees the Israeli response to being attacked as “barbaric, hateful, cowardly, war crimes.”
In comparison a comment made by an Israeli government spokesperson has been called out.
Current situation
The situation in Gaza is still critical, with Israeli tanks have taken up positions outside al-Shifa hospital, Gaza City’s main medical centre, which Israel says sits atop tunnels housing a headquarters for Hamas fighters who are using patients as shields. Hamas denies the Israeli claim, reports The Guardian.
At least 11,240 Palestinians have been killed, including 4,630 children and 3,130 women in Gaza by the Israeli military since 7 October, the health ministry said on Monday. About 1,200 Israelis have died in the conflict, most on 7 October.
Israeli spokesman
Mike Galsworthy shared a post by Eylon Levy regarding the pro-Palestine protests on the weekend.
Levy wrote: “I don’t think London has ever seen such a large demonstration of rape apologists before.”
Mike replied to the post writing: “Disgusting tweet from an Israeli Govt “Spokesman” no less.
“Absolutely appalling slur on our nation – and those calling for ceasefire.”
Sinn Fein Gaza speech
This comment comes in stark contrast to Sinn Fein party leader Mary Lou McDonald.
She said what Palestinian people have been going through is “having endured generations of dispossession, occupation, oppression, apartheid – human rights violations that should shake humanity.”
“Carpet bombing civilians, collective punishment, massacring children in their thousands is not defense,” she told a party event on Saturday, stressing that these are “not justifiable responses to the horrific attack by Hamas on October 7th.”
“The world sees Israeli actions for what they are: Barbaric, hateful, cowardly, war crimes,” McDonald said.
Recalling that a child is killed every 10 minutes in Gaza, she said the besieged enclave has become “the graveyard of children.”
“We ask, where is the protection of international law for every child killed in Gaza? For every Gazan mother holding the cold body of their dead child? Israel cannot be allowed to commit atrocities with impunity.”
