It is safe to say the Tories has a bad night at the polls.
The BBC has now released its projected national share figures for the local election.
This is the estimate of what the share-of-the-vote figures for each party would have been if elections had taken place in the whole of Britain.
The figures are:
Labour: 35%
Conservatives: 26%
Lib Dems: 20%
Others: 19%
The last time Labour had a lead on this measure in local elections was in 1997.
Remain areas
Unsurprisingly, the Tories are losing most in remain areas, according to an analysis of today’s results.
Will Jennings tweeted: “An update on how the #LocalElections2023 vote is looking by Brexit vote. We continue to see a clear pattern where the Conservatives are losing most support in Remain voting areas, while Labour is gaining most in places that voted Leave in 2016.”
Sunak
Rishi Sunak came out to defend the results.
Filmmaker Peter Stefanovic shared his video slamming Sunak’s lame excuses and wrote: “Hold on to your seats for the Prime Ministers response to his party’s local elections Armageddon!”
