Tim Martin knighthood yep you red that right. The Brexit loving pint selling goon is now a Sir.
Wonder never cease…
Tim Martin knighthood
The Brexit campaigner has been recognised for his services to hospitality and culture.
He was one of the most high-profile business people to argue in favour of leaving the EU during the 2016 referendum campaign, reports The BBC.
Why did it take so long?
Well some people think it has been too long The Spectator said Why did it take so long to give Tim Martin a knighthood?
They wrote: “The real question is why did it take so long? The first Wetherspoons opened in 1979 (named after a teacher who told him that he would never amount to anything). There are now more than 800 of them. His services to hospitality and culture are indisputable, but Wetherspoons is more than a successful business. It is almost a charity. No one has done more than Sir Tim to shield pubgoers from the cost-of-living crisis.”
What Tim said?
He said it came “out of the blue” and “had never been expected”.
“I always think that, in the pub world, it is a team effort – even if you’ve just got one pub there are many people involved.
“I think it’s the Wetherspoon colleagues and customers who are getting the award really, that’s the way I look at it. I’m just the lucky recipient.”
He then said: “I’d like to think [the knighthood] is not for my rarely disclosed political views – I hope it is for what it says on the tin
