Coast Guard to give update after ‘debris field’ discovered in search for missing submersible.
The US Coast Guard has issued a major update, reporting that a debris field was discovered in the search area near the Titanic. Experts are said to be “evaluating the information”, and an update will be given at 8pm UK time.
Statement
Guillermo Sohnlein, the co-founder of OceanGate, has said he believes the time window the people on board have to be larger than the estimated 96 hours.
In a statement posted online, Mr Sohnlein also thanked those involved in search and rescue efforts.
“Today will be a critical day in this search and rescue mission, as the sub’s life support supplies are starting to run low,” he said.
“I’m certain that Stockton [Rush] and the rest of the crew realized days ago that the best thing they can do to ensure their rescue is to extend the limits of those supplies by relaxing as much as possible.
“I firmly believe that the time window available for their rescue is longer than what most people think.
“I would encourage everyone to remain hopeful for getting the crew back safely.”

Some people made a similar point that the mission to save the people on the submarine is huge, while migrants perish in the sea with little or no help.
Their comments have received mixed responses as status of the people on the submarine are still unknown.
