After calling footballer-turned-TV pundit Ian Wright a “typical black hypocrite,” a councillor from the Conservative party found herself at the centre of a racial controversy.
In the midst of the controversy over Gary Lineker’s usage of social media, Alexis McEvoy, a councillor in the New Forest, Hampshire, tweeted about the former Arsenal player to her followers on Saturday afternoon. According to The Mirror, she later removed the remark and shut down her Twitter account.
The local politician later played down the tweet, claiming that her words had been “taken out of context” in an interview with the Advertiser and Times.
