Yesterday, Tory MP Lee Anderson branded ‘disgusting’ after saying foodbank users waste money on booze and fags.
He made his comments in an interview with The Telegraph. Anderson claimed people were spending money on non-essentials such as Sky TV, according to The Mirror.
Expenses
For the 2020-21 financial year, Mr Anderson claimed £222,618.06 in expenses, according to the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority.
It follows a Daily Mail front page which slams ‘something for nothing Britain.’
However, as Adam Bienkov points out they fail to mention the 11 million odd pensioners, who aren’t ‘leeching of society’ or whatever they think food bank users are.
They are old and don’t work anymore, so need state support. A lot of Mail readers are pensioners!
New Tory slams food banks
On BBC Politics Live, Gareth Bacon was the latest Tory to slam poor people who use food banks.
Bacon said: “People will say they don’t have enough money but… sometimes people will have to look at how they manage their personal finances and there’s nothing wrong in that, that is not in anyway a criticism of anyone and it’s not patronising to say so.”
Labour MP Chris Bryant was left fuming with his comments and said: “We’ve had ministers saying ‘just go out and get that better paid job, just go and work more hours’. It is just not as simple as that.
“We’ve had energy prices doubling in a year, wages depressed and no growth in Tory Britain.”
