The UK government has been accused of going round in circles in its attempt to stop sewage pouring into England’s waterways
Campaign group Surfers Against Sewage said history was “farcically” repeating itself.
“Last year, the government ordered water companies to produce sewage action plans, and now similar lacklustre plans are being pitched as if new. We need action, not more plans,” said Izzy Ross, SAS campaigners manager.
Lack of backbone
The government’s “lack of backbone has let the polluters run wild”,and the government has to ensure the resources are in place to “actually dish out these penalties”.
As you can see Caroline Lucas told the House about the effluence flooding into our water.
She said: “”Over the course of 2020/21 raw sewage was dumped in Britain’s rivers & seas more than 770000 times… while executives pay increase by 1/5… people are angry because water companies are swimming in cash & the rest of us are swimming in sewage.”
Air
Sadly, we know about the sewage ruining our water supply and coast line, but what about the air we breath?
Step forward Tory MP James Duddridge who told the House: “Is the Minister concerned that Mayors, like Andy Burnham, are using the role to build a personal power base, & implement policies that are diametrically opposed to Tory values, such as the Manchester clean air zone.”
