It has been claimed that Brexit hindered the government’s Covid pandemic response, due to the squabbling and fall-out from leaving the EU.
However, today on BBC’s Politics Live Tory MP Miriam Cates said that this wasn’t true, and the UK’s quick vaccine roll-out was due leaving the single market, but this has been repeatedly debunked.
Boris Johnson created this claim, now PM Rishi Sunak and numerous other Tory MPs have spouted the same nonsense.
Brexit hindered Pandemic response
Filmmaker Peter Stefanovic simply wasn’t standing for this and has created another viral video.
Peter shared the video and wrote: “This shocking. In response to the COVID inquiry being told Brexit hampered No10’s pandemic preparations Conservative MP’s are again repeating the rubbished & debunked claim made by Boris Johnson about the vaccine rollout! UK news shows must not let them get away with it!”
Matt Hancock
The Covid inquiry heard that Matt Hancock, who was health secretary for the first 18 months of the pandemic, had admitted that the UK was not prepared for Covid-19.
He has told Lady Hallett’s inquiry, in a written witness statement: “In coming into the post as health secretary, I was advised that the UK was a world leader in preparations for the pandemic. Whilst this may have been a heartfelt belief, it did not turn out to be the case when faced with what became known as Covid-19. Once we understood the threat from the disease, the lack of concrete preparedness plans became clear.”
