James O’Brien has made claims about Sangita Myska’s exit from LBC during a radio call in, which has left people to question his motivations.
LBC host Sangita Myska left the station after coming off air in opaque circumstances following a fiery clash with an Israeli government spokesperson over its military action in Gaza.
In July 2024, Myska penned her first post since the departure, thanking listeners for their support. “To all my astonishing listeners and supporters, you have kept me afloat in deep and stormy seas,” she wrote in a post on X/Twitter.
“Sorry I’m unable to answer all of your questions. I am truly grateful for your care, friendship and encouragement. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Sangita x”.
James O’Brien
When James was pulled up about the matter, he didn’t seem happy at all.
Hamza Yusuf shared the clip and wrote: “This morning on LBC, a caller spoke about media lobbying to shield Israel, before citing Sangita Myska’s exit from LBC as an example of censorship. James O’Brien responded with a furious rant, accusing him of ‘slurs,’ ‘antisemitic conspiracies,’ and ‘lies.’ Extraordinary.”
Saul Staniforth shared a clip and wrote: “O’Brien claims Sangita Myska wasn’t silenced by LBC for criticising Israel. He says its a lie & accuses Sangita of deliberately allowing the lie to fester by staying silent, allowing people to believe antisemitic conspiracy theories (how is saying Sangita was sacked antisemitic?)”
He followed up with: “In case you think O’Brien has any integrity, one from the archives Tues: Labour haven’t said they won’t repeal the Public Order Act, people saying different are weirdos. We report the truth Weds: Labour won’t repeal the act & the reasons are obvious to anyone paying attention.”
One person wrote in response: “Absolutely awful of @mrjamesob to have a stab at @SangitaMyska without her being on the programme and have the right to reply. James talks about Sangita’s silence. Why doesn’t James and @lbc invite Sangita on and then everything can be cleared up? Seems bizarre this hasn’t happened. Also, as we all know, journalists who have been perceived as too critical of Israel or too challenging toward Israel representatives have indeed been taken off air or were forced to resign across various British media, so to brand the accusation itself that this has happened to Sangita as ‘antisemitic’ is pathetic. Stop it.”
Another wrote: “It’s come to my attention that 8 mins after this rant, @mrjamesob praised my @Independent article on the BBC’s Gaza coverage as “brilliant”. I’m afraid this doesn’t absolve him of attacking another woman of colour mere minutes ago. I stand in solidarity with @SangitaMyska.”
