Today Chris Phlip was on TV news claiming that police numbers are going to hit record highs. It took Peter Stefanovic to take apart his Philp’s argument in another crucial piece of filmmaking.
Only two weeks ago Philp was claming the same thing. Speaking to BBC Breakfast, Philp said: “By the end of this month, we are on track to have met that target and when we’ve done that, we will have more police officers across England and Wales then we’ve ever had anytime, in this country’s history.”
“Are you sure?” host Sally Nugent cut in.
Philp lent forward and said: “Sorry?”
The breakfast host repeated: “Are you sure?
“Because I’m just looking at my notes here – between March 2010 and September 2017 there was a fall in police numbers of 21,085.
“So the 20,000 that you’re talking about would only bring us back up to the level that we used to be at before the cuts.”

Peter shared the video and wrote: “Jeez! Never underestimate just how thick this Government thinks we all are! Watch in disbelief.”

Alastair Campbell was full of praise for Peter’s work, he wrote: “How @PeterStefanovi2 calls these people out day after day with the same relentless calm and commitment to fact is the kind of thing we shouldn’t need in a country that claims to have a free media. But we need it more than ever.”
A lot of other people agree with Campbell, here is one example, “Spot on analysis of the actual #Police numbers in the UK under the tories!”
Here is another clip of Chris struggling to answer questions on crime.
