Rishi Sunak has been taken down over his supposed fawning over Elon Musk after the two had a live conversation.
Sunak/Musk
The Prime Minister Rishi Sunak carried out an “in conversation” event at the end of this week’s summit on AI with Musk, reports the BBC.
The pair discussed the potential benefits of AI, with Elon saying: “One of my sons has trouble making friends and an AI friend would be great for him.”
They discussed the impact AI could have on traditional jobs.
“We are seeing the most disruptive force in history here,” Mr Musk said, before speculating: “There will come a point where no job is needed – you can have a job if you want one for personal satisfaction but AI will do everything.
“It’s both good and bad – one of the challenges in the future will be how do we find meaning in life.”
The BBC reporter pondered…
“Was it Mr Sunak as he asked the celeb tech billionaire questions? Or was it Mr Musk, who did much of the talking?”
Love-in
In response to this conversation/interview Labour MP Daniel Zeichner asked Rishi Sunak about his recent love-in with Elon Musk.
He asked: “The world cringed at the PM’s fawning welcome for Elon Musk. This week advertisers are fleeing his platform after his latest vile outburst.. what did he think he might learn from a super rich individual.. who’s plunged his organisation into a death spiral?”
Sunak replied saying it was “extraordinary” that Mr Zeichner did not “understand the importance of technology sectors and companies to the growth of our economy”.
“What the rest of the world saw was the UK playing a lead in defining the regulations and approach to a technology that is going to transform how we live.”
