James O’Brien’s heated argument with a farmer’s son is being called an “all-timer of an Accidental Partridge,” referencing the famous radio parody show North Norfolk Radio.

A Furious Exchange

O’Brien, known for his passionate debates on LBC, found himself in a tense confrontation with a caller whose father will be directly affected by Labour’s proposed changes to inheritance tax. The new rules, set to come into effect in April 2026, will impose a 20% tax on inherited agricultural assets over £1 million, which were previously exempt.

Under the proposed changes, married couples or civil partners could potentially pass on a farm worth up to £3 million, while paying tax over a ten-year period.

Despite these allowances, the caller was clearly angry, expressing his frustration with O’Brien in a fiery exchange. The caller shouted, “I’m not your mate! I hate you, I think you’re an idiot!”

The Politics Behind the Row

The proposed tax changes have caused concern among farmers, who believe the new rules could have a significant financial impact on their ability to pass on their family businesses. The caller’s anger stemmed from these concerns, leading to the fiery confrontation with O’Brien.
